Bright Old Things Walking Stick
So what's it all about?

We are bombarded with images and advertisements every day of our lives. The way the collective mass media portray older people simply is not accurate. Those images you do see aren't exactly vibrant, interesting or positive , life insurance and stair lift ads are none of these things we're sure you'll agree. After all we're as old as we feel not as old as we look. We are using stereotypical objects associated with older people and 'illuminating' them. Objects have been left in various different locations in London, they are now part of the day to day image repertoire that surrounds us. We hope that they will grab people's attention and they ask ‘what's this about?’. The bright colours which cover these objects remind us to look at things differently and outside of the stereotypical context. We want to remove the common misconceptions that surround age and ageing and to challenge you to see older people differently, as you see these objects differently once brightly painted. Remember, not everything is at it seems.

So why have you been sent a Parcel?
We are targeting influential professionals in media, fashion and advertising to take a fresh, brighter look at the way in which they portray older people through their work. We are asking that you take some form of action, small or large to portray older people in a positive and lets face it realistic light. Do it because you agree with us, do it to be different or do it for the money, after all it's those between the ages of 55 - 69 who have all the cash in the UK (Banks & Tetlow: Institute for Fiscal Studies, June 2009). We don't care so much about your motives, we just want change. Click here to see the Bright Old Things we've sent and who we've sent them to.
